Nine hundred million years in the making.
A landscape shaped by time
Along the rugged coastline of Bohuslän on Sweden’s west coast lies Ramsvikslandet — a landscape of exposed rock, open sea and ancient geological forms.
At its heart is the distinctive Bohus granite, formed approximately 920 million years ago. Over immense stretches of time, ice, water and weather have continued to shape its surface, leaving behind smooth curves, fractures, depressions and sculptural formations.
But Sculpted by Time is not intended as a documentation of this landscape.
I became fascinated by what happened when I moved closer.
The coastline gradually disappeared, and the granite became something else — lines, shapes, textures and color. Small pools of water became dark passages through the stone. Shadows transformed into graphic forms. Without familiar references to scale, fragments of rock began to resemble entire landscapes.
The closer I looked, the more abstract the landscape became.

The conditions that day gave me exactly the light I had hoped for.
Warm sunlight moved across the granite, intensifying the reds and oranges for which the Bohus coast is known. At the same time, the uneven surface created deep shadows that revealed shapes and formations that might easily disappear under softer light.
For me, this became an essential part of the series.
The forms had been shaped over an unimaginable period of time.
The light revealed them for only a moment.
Beyond the landscape
As I continued exploring the granite, scale became less important.
A shadow became a shape.
A fracture became a line.
A hollow became a valley.
What remained was no longer simply a photograph of a place, but an interpretation of it — somewhere between landscape and abstraction.

A different sense of time
People have moved through this coastline for thousands of years. The wider landscape carries traces of human presence reaching far beyond our own time.
Yet against the geological history of the granite, our presence becomes remarkably brief.
In Sculpted by Time VII, a distant sailboat provides one of the collection’s few recognizable references to scale.
For a moment, stone, sky and human presence occupy the same frame.
The sailboat is moving through the landscape.
The granite remains.
Where the landscape becomes abstraction
By the final photograph, almost every recognizable reference to landscape has disappeared.
There is no horizon.
No sky.
Only stone, light, shadow, texture and color.
The collection began with ancient granite meeting an open blue sky.
It ends by moving all the way inside the stone.

The Collection
Sculpted by Time consists of eight individual fine art photographs, created to work both independently and as a collection.
Each artwork is available as a museum-quality fine art print, presented with a carefully balanced white border.
