Quiet Motion IV was created among birch trees in autumn, where pale trunks stood against vegetation filled with warm gold, muted green and earthy brown.
For this photograph, the camera was deliberately moved upwards during the exposure, following the vertical rhythm of the trees. The movement softens the details while allowing the distinctive white birch trunks to remain present as luminous lines running through the composition.
What remains is less a description of a forest and more an impression of being within it — color, light and movement distilled into a quieter, more abstract form.
Quiet Motion is an ongoing fine art photography series exploring the space between photography and painting through intentional camera movement.
Rather than freezing a moment, movement becomes part of the photographic process itself. Shapes dissolve, details disappear and familiar landscapes are reduced to light, color, rhythm and atmosphere.
While the earlier works in the series explore the horizontal movement of coastlines and beaches, Quiet Motion IV introduces a different rhythm. Here, the movement follows the vertical structure of the forest, allowing the birch trees themselves to define the direction of the image.
Each work begins with a real place, but the final photograph is less about documenting that place than interpreting how it felt.
