Sometimes the landscape is already there, but it takes the right light to reveal it.
Sculpted by Time IV was created during one of those moments.
Warm sunlight moved across the surface of the Bohus granite, intensifying its characteristic red and orange tones. At the same time, the uneven surface allowed deep shadows to gather within its depressions and fractures.
Suddenly, shapes that might have appeared subtle under softer conditions became clearly defined.
That interaction between light and stone became the photograph.
Rather than simply illuminating the landscape, the sunlight seemed to reveal its structure — emphasizing every curve, hollow and change in elevation.
Small pools of water add another layer. They settle into formations within the granite and create dark interruptions across its warm surface, while the surrounding shadows exaggerate the impression of depth.
The result has an almost sculptural quality.
Without a horizon or recognizable sense of scale, it becomes difficult to know exactly what we are looking at. Small formations begin to resemble valleys and ridges. Shadows become graphic shapes. Water becomes part of the composition rather than simply an element within the landscape.
This is one of the ideas at the heart of Sculpted by Time.
The forms have existed for an immense period of time.
But sometimes it takes only a few minutes of the right light to truly see them.
Sculpted by Time is a fine art photography collection created at Ramsvikslandet in Bohuslän, Sweden.
The collection explores the region's ancient Bohus granite through colour, light, texture and form. Rather than documenting the landscape in a traditional way, the photographs reveal curves, fractures, shadows and traces left by ice, water and weather.
Across eight individual artworks, the warm tones of the granite create a recurring visual language, often contrasted against water or the deep blue of the Scandinavian summer sky.
Each work is designed to stand on its own, while the collection can also be displayed in pairs or groups where forms, colours and textures continue from one artwork to another.
