Sculpted by Time V
Sculpted by Time V
When shadow becomes form.
There is a point where a landscape stops being about place.
It becomes color.
Shape.
Light.
Shadow.
Sculpted by Time V explores that transition.
While walking among the red granite formations of Ramsvikslandet, I became increasingly interested in the way the sunlight interacted with the uneven surface of the rock.
In this composition, a strong shadow falls across the warm granite, creating a dark organic form that immediately changes the way we perceive the surface.
Rather than simply describing the shape of the rock, the shadow becomes a subject in itself.
The warm sunlight was equally important. It brings forward the reds, oranges and subtle variations within the Bohus granite, creating a striking contrast against the darker area cutting through the frame.
By excluding the horizon and almost every recognizable reference to scale, the original landscape begins to disappear.
What remains is something simpler.
Color against darkness.
Texture against shape.
Light against shadow.
Depending on how you look at it, the photograph can suggest completely different things. A geological formation. An aerial landscape. An abstract painting. Perhaps something else entirely.
I prefer not to decide.
That freedom of interpretation is part of what drew me towards the more abstract photographs within this collection.
Sculpted by Time V is still a photograph of a real landscape.
But it no longer needs to look like one.
About the Sculpted by Time Collection
Sculpted by Time is a fine art photography collection created at Ramsvikslandet in Bohuslän, Sweden.
The collection explores the region's ancient Bohus granite through color, light, texture and form. Rather than documenting the landscape in a traditional way, the photographs reveal curves, fractures, shadows and traces left by ice, water and weather.
Across eight individual artworks, the warm tones of the granite create a recurring visual language, often contrasted against water or the deep blue of the Scandinavian summer sky.
Each work is designed to stand on its own, while the collection can also be displayed in pairs or groups where forms, colors and textures continue from one artwork to another.
