After spending time looking closely at the granite — its fractures, shadows, textures and small formations — I wanted to open the composition again.
Sculpted by Time VII does exactly that.
The photograph is built from only a few elements.
Warm stone.
Blue sky.
And, almost hidden within the scene, a distant sailboat.
The sunlight falling across the Bohus granite brought out the rich red and orange colors I had been hoping to capture that day. Against the clear blue sky, the rock becomes a simple sculptural form rather than a conventional landscape.
Then there is the boat.
Small enough to be missed at first glance, its presence changes the photograph once you notice it.
Suddenly, there is scale.
The rock becomes larger.
The sky becomes wider.
And a human presence enters a landscape whose geological story began hundreds of millions of years before us.
I particularly like that contrast.
Throughout Sculpted by Time, I deliberately remove many of the visual references we normally use to understand a landscape. In several of the photographs, it becomes almost impossible to determine whether we are looking at a small detail or something monumental.
Here, I wanted to do the opposite.
One tiny element gives the viewer a reference — while at the same time emphasizing just how small that reference really is.
The sailboat is moving through the landscape.
The granite remains.
For me, that fleeting relationship between the two is what makes Sculpted by Time VII special.
Sculpted by Time is a fine art photography collection created at Ramsvikslandet in Bohuslän, Sweden.
The collection explores the region's ancient Bohus granite through color, light, texture and form. Rather than documenting the landscape in a traditional way, the photographs reveal curves, fractures, shadows and traces left by ice, water and weather.
Across eight individual artworks, the warm tones of the granite create a recurring visual language, often contrasted against water or the deep blue of the Scandinavian summer sky.
Each work is designed to stand on its own, while the collection can also be displayed in pairs or groups where forms, colors and textures continue from one artwork to another.
